The story
I own a pest control company in Melbourne. I'm on the tools six days a week. Roofs, subfloors, kitchens, the lot.
A while back I worked out something I didn't want to hear. I wasn't running a business. I was a glorified worker with a company name. If I stopped, it stopped. Every call, every quote, every invoice went through me, and I was doing the paperwork at night after a full day on the tools.
And there's a reason I can't stay like that. My family and I want to make hijra, to move to Bosnia, and you can't walk away from a business that needs you in the room.
So I'm building one that doesn't. The phone, the quoting, the invoicing, the schedule, the training. One piece at a time, built by a bloke who kills rats for a living and is learning this as he goes, mostly at night.
Why I show all of it
Because nobody tells you how this actually goes. You see the before and the after, never the middle. The middle is where I am right now.
So I post every part of it, including the parts that break. Some of it's fixed. Some of it isn't yet. The Away Test shows you where your own business breaks first, and the fixes show what I did about each one in mine.
Where it ends
It ends when I can take a week off and the business doesn't notice. I'm not there yet. When I am, you'll hear about it.
